实际上,对于绝大部分人来说,“每天只睡 3~4 个小时”属于“危险操作,请勿模仿”的范畴。
极少部分具有 DEC2 基因突变的人,每天所需睡眠时间少于 5 小时。而且这部分人在睡够时间之后会自然醒来,也就是说,这样少的睡眠时间并不是后天强制习得的[1]. DEC2 突变调控食欲素(orexin)[2]的分泌异于常人。而食欲素是昼夜节律‘触发器开关机制’(The flip-flop switch)控制器[3](原理参见 为什么吃饭会有饱的感觉,睡觉却感觉永远睡不够?):
即便是对于有 DEC2 突变导致每天所需睡眠时间大幅减少的群体,其后果理论上也是总体消极的. 动物实验证明:DEC2 突变会使个体变得更为警觉,睡眠周期中的各个子周期都明显减少[4]:
过高的警觉是一个显然的健康风险[5, 6]. 会使得心血管疾病、神经系统疾病等的发病风险大幅增加。
对于我们中的多数成年人,每天所需的睡眠时间在 7 小时以上[7],少部分人需要更久,可能多达 12 小时才够消解积累的困乏。对于没有这样的基因突变的绝大部分人来说,强制的缩短睡眠时间,就是进行了睡眠剥夺操作(Sleep Deprivation ). 实际上,由于人类神经系统的可塑性,认为缩短睡眠时间是可行的——今天的我们就比我们的祖辈睡眠时间更短:
当一个成年人认为地削减睡眠时间到一定程度,比如少于每天 6 小时,TA 感染病毒的风险会比正常睡眠的人大幅增加,也就是说,其免疫系统会明显更为脆弱。短期少睡导致的最直观后果之一是,患感冒的可能性增加为之前的 4 倍左右[9].
而免疫系统脆弱的后果是非常复杂而且严重的。实际上,癌症可以简单的理解为我们的免疫系统无法及时清理身体内的有毒 / 有害物质的后果[10 - 12]:
所以,长期的睡眠剥夺(认为减少睡眠时间到低于所需睡眠的水平)会显著的增加患癌概率[13]. 关于这一点可以请 李开复 老师 和这个问题下面的锻炼自己每天只睡 3~4 小时的答主(如果还活着的话)现身说法。
当然,长期睡眠剥夺不仅通过削弱免疫而增加癌症等疾病的风险,还会增加抑郁症[14]、心血管疾病[15]、肥胖[16]等疾病的风险。
很多人认为为了工作效率,每天少睡几个小时是值得的。但是科学数据并不支持这一点[17]. 相反地,在睡眠剥夺情况下,人的神经系统处于代偿状态,对自身精神状态的评估是失常的。实际上,其能力是显著低于正常睡眠情况下的。(相关原理参见:熬夜快感的本质是什么?)
总结:
- 对于成年人来说,除了极少部分人由于基因突变导致睡眠时间易于常人,其他的人每天只睡 3~4 小时都是强撑。
- 对于强撑的那一部分人,其自我感知的工作时间增长、工作效率增加是自己的神经系统在睡眠剥夺情况下的认知错觉。
- 对于成年人来说,无论有无 DEC2 突变,每天只睡 3~4 小时都是对健康极为有害的行为(作死行为)。
